Overview

Assesses, diagnoses, and treats mental health conditions viacomprehensive psychiatric evaluations and medication management tosupport mental health, academic functioning, and well-being ofstudents referred by Personal Counseling Center Staff. This is apart-time and academic year (9-month) position.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Provide psychiatric evaluations, assessment, and medicationmanagement services to students presenting a wide range of mentalhealth concerns. Provide detailed education on risks/benefits ofmedications and interactions with other prescribed or recreationalsubstances. Develop comprehensive treatment planning for caseload,including assisting with appropriate referrals for medicationmanagement when students are away from campus for continuity ofcare. Monitor medication adherence, side effects, and treatmentoutcomes using best practices. (75%)
2. Collaborate with internal and external treatment providers tocoordinate comprehensive care, including consultation with thecontracted psychiatrist and case discussions with counseling andhealth services staff. Meet with the executive directorperiodically to review cases of concern and flow of system.(10%)
3. Partner with health Services and Sports Medicine staff(Athletic team doctors) to coordinate laboratory testing, as neededcardiac testing, and review medical concerns related to psychiatrictreatment. Communicate clearly about medication interactions andhealth monitoring needs. Consult with both departments, as needed.(5%)
4. Assist in referral management for higher or specialized care,including partial hospitalization, emergency referrals forinpatient level of care assessment, intensive outpatient programs,or off-campus psychiatric providers. Ensure appropriate handoff andcontinuity of care. (5%)
5. Provide timely documentation in the electronic medical recordssystem within the Personal Counseling Center’s policies andprocedures, following state and institutional standards. UtilizeEMR systems in Health Services and Athletics for electronicprescription services. Provide documentation for varsity studentathletes when needed for NCAA mandates related to controlledsubstances. (5%)

MARGINAL DUTIES:

1. Perform all other duties as may be required.

Education and Experience

• Master of Science in Nursing from an accredited institutionrequired.
• One to three years’ hands-on experience, preferable in a highereducation counseling center or an equivalent combination ofeducation and experience.
• APRN license in the State of Rhode Island.
• Current board certification as a Psychiatric Mental HealthNurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) from the ANNC (American NursesCredentialing Center).
• Rhode Island Controlled Substances Registration (CSRlicense)/Federal DEA Registration.
• Intermediate proficiency with electronic medical recordssystems.
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• Ability to provide intricate substance use assessments toassess dual/comorbid diagnoses, level of risk regarding substanceuse, and potential prescribed medications in collegepopulation.
• Experience working with assessing for disordered eating/eatingdisorders given the higher occurrence in a higher educationsetting.
• Ability to work effectively in a team-based setting thatrequires flexibility based on potential for emergency/riskassessments while also being able to work independently.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to providecomplex diagnostic and treatment feedback to students.
• Minimum of one year post board certification. College mentalhealth experience preferred, but not required.
