Currently recruiting a Psychiatrist in Tacoma, WA to coordinate complex clinical operations at a facility that houses individuals detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The core scope of practice includes evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of psychiatric and mental health needs, including family units; urgent and emergency mental health care; public health management; case management; collaboration with an interdisciplinary team; and gender-specific care, including transgender care and mental health management during pregnancy. All care provided to ICE detainees is governed by IHSC policy and detention standards.
DUTIES OF THE PSYCHIATRIST:
- Provides direct care within discipline scope of practice, in accordance with current accepted standards, licensure, certification, and privileges.
- Provides treatment across the lifespan suitable to discipline and setting.
- Provides telepsychiatry services to other IHSC facilities as needed, working with the patient’s local primary care provider, using IHSC teleconferencing equipment and EMR software, in accordance with IHSC policies. Optional: obtain additional state licensing for out-of-state telepsychiatry.
- Responds to and coordinates medical emergencies as needed.
- Prescribes and monitors psychiatric medications, including side effects and adverse reactions.
- Offers psycho-educational information regarding treatments, risks, and support options.
- Uses evidence-based algorithms and tools for assessment and medication management.
- Adheres to medical standards, including APA standards and legal requirements.
- Determines need for core and specialty psychiatric services.
- Performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including psychotherapy and somatic therapies.
- Provides culturally competent, recovery-oriented psychiatric care.
- Ensures dignity and patient involvement in treatment decisions.
- Utilizes evidence-based practices to promote recovery and reduce stigma.
- Maintains a positive therapeutic environment and participates in quality improvement.
- Prepares documentation, reports, and legal/administrative records.
- Provides expertise to staff on mental health treatment and programs.
- Analyzes mental health trends and helps develop policies.
- In emergencies, may perform non-psychiatric medical evaluations and treatments within scope.
- Spends at least 60% of time in direct patient care.
- Provides outpatient and inpatient care, collaborating with facility staff and specialists.
- Acts as a mental health consultant to medical staff.
- Orders diagnostics, administers treatments, and refers as needed.
- Ensures proper medical recordkeeping and quality of care.
- May see patients outside of expertise but within scope.
- Maintains confidentiality and adheres to policies and regulations.
- Participates in safety, infection control, and other programs.
- Attends staff meetings.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- MD or DO from an accredited U.S. school or equivalent foreign degree with ECFMG certification.
- Completion of four years of residency leading to board eligibility in psychiatry.
- Minimum one year of licensed psychiatric practice experience.
