Job description

Psychiatry Regional Medical Director opening - Bristol, TN
Located on the VA/TN border - 23m to Kingsport, 55m to Boone, NC

Position Details
  1. Full-time, permanent
  2. Employed
  3. Freestanding 28-bed adult psychiatric unit, located minutes from Regional Medical Center, providing inpatient psychiatric services to communities in Southwestern Virginia and Northeast Tennessee.
  4. In addition to daily treatment responsibilities, the Regional Medical Director will provide physician leadership for the Psychiatry team, including 3-4 staff Psychiatrists and 7-8 Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants.
  5. The Director will collaborate with Behavioral Health Service Line leadership to optimize quality and operations across 3 units (58 beds) and a robust consult-liaison service providing inpatient psychiatric services throughout the Group's footprint.
  6. This leadership position requires an enthusiastic, motivated individual committed to process improvement.
  7. The candidate should have strong communication skills, the ability to foster teamwork, and a vision for innovative, patient-centered care that adapts to the changing healthcare landscape.
Schedule

Weekdays: Monday - Friday (8-hour days)
Call: 1-in-6 (Regional Call Model)
Weekends: 1 weekend per month of on-site rounding

Practice Details

The facility accommodates 28 patients and features a multi-purpose treatment room, group therapy, recreational therapy, a kitchen, laundry, offices, and work areas. It offers various therapeutic modalities including:

  • Daily rounds by the Psychiatry Team (including 1 Psychiatrist and 1 Psychiatric Advanced Practitioner)
  • Therapeutic services led by licensed therapists and counselors, such as:
  • Individual psychotherapy
  • Group psychotherapy
  • On-site Case Management and Utilization Review
  • Recreational activities
  • Pharmacology
  • Family therapy
  • On-site Court
  • Educational services
Facility Details

The unit provides short-term stabilization and treatment for adults with inpatient needs, aiming to return patients to a manageable outpatient level. It operates 24/7, accepting referrals from Community Service Boards and voluntary admissions from Regional Medical Center in Bristol, TN. Family, community, and court collaboration facilitate patient reintegration.
