Job summary

Indian Health Service is seeking a Nurse Practitioner (Psychiatric) to deliver comprehensive care across the lifespan and support behavioral health teams. You will diagnose, treat, and manage psychiatric conditions with a focus on culturally responsive care, alignment with DSM, and safe psychopharmacology practices.

The role includes collaboration with physicians and APNs, documentation, adherence to standards, and participation in program evaluation.

Qualifications

• Graduate or higher-level nursing degree from an accredited program.
• Current, active NP license in the appropriate state.
• PMHNP certification/licensure required for advanced practice roles.

Responsibilities

• Conducts comprehensive psychiatric evaluations across the lifespan and applies DSM to diagnose disorders.
• Prescribes and manages psychotropic medications and orders/assesses tests and labs.
• Assesses psychiatric emergencies and coordinates admission/discharge or referral as needed.
• Develops evidence-based, culturally responsive treatment plans including psychotherapy when within scope.
• Provides psychiatric consultation to physicians and teams regarding cases and protocols.
• Maintains accurate, compliant psychiatric documentation and participates in program evaluation.
