Job summary

Great Salt Plains Health Center seeks a Psychiatric Clinical Assistant to support the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and care management for patients. You will act as a liaison among medical, behavioral, and support staff, ensuring timely and effective integration of care.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains first line contact with all patients who come into clinic and guides the patient through Psychiatric Intake procedures.
  • Performs routine intake procedures and basic assessments as needed.
  • Assists with laboratory procedures and routine office procedures.
  • Triages patients for the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and supports care coordination.
  • Communicates with patients about medications, appointments, no-shows, and referrals.
  • Supports monitoring of treatment progress and medication compliance.

Job description

This is a safety sensitive position. The Psychiatric Clinical Assistant provides support and care management for patients receiving treatment from the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. The Psych Clinical Assistant works as a liaison between the medical, behavioral, and support staff teams. The Psych CA will assist the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with a variety of tasks related to ensuring that the patients receive a high level of care.

III. QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma or GED Required.
  • On-the-job training, previous experience preferred.
  • Personal maturity, cooperation, ability to communicate clearly.
VI. CHARACTERISTIC ACTIVITIES:
  • Maintains first line contact with all patients who come into clinic and walks the patient through the Psychiatric Intake procedures.
  • Performs routine intake procedures such as height, weight, temperature, pulse, blood pressure readings, and brief assessments as needed.
  • Assists with laboratory procedures as requested by the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner.
  • Assists with office procedures.
  • Responsibility for triaging patients who will be seeing the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner.
  • Assists the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with care of patients.
  • Relieves other departments as indicated as time permits.
  • Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
VII. SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS:
  • Obtains routine temperature, pulse, respiration, height, weight, and brief assessments.
  • Responsible for collecting behavioral health data via approved questionnaires.
  • Responsible for assisting with maintenance and quality control of medical and laboratory equipment.
  • Responsible for routine laboratory procedures including but not limited to:various dipsticks, urinalysis, hemoglobin A1c, glucose screening, gram stains, and procedures as approved by GSPHC policies and CLIA standards.
  • Maintains a current CPR license, participates in educational training offered at GSP Health; including web-based training courses.
  • The Psych CA will be the liaison between the medical, behavioral, and support teams ensuring that integration between disciplines happens in a timely and effective manner.
  • The Psych CA may be asked to communicate with patients about medications, appointments, no-shows, and referrals.
  • The Psych CA will be asked to assist in monitoring treatment progress and medication compliance.
  • The Psych CA will participate in the continued education deemed necessary for the best patient care within the role of the Psych CA.
  • The Psych CA will perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein, or as assigned by the Behavioral Health Lead.
