Job summary

Lake Charles Memorial Hospital is seeking a Psych Aide to provide direct contact with patients, monitor responses to services, and identify problem areas under supervision of the Nurse Manager.

The role involves coordinating with multiple departments to ensure patient safety, performing crisis interventions, and maintaining a safe environment. Strong communication, resilience, and adaptability are essential.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Experience with mentally ill or addicted individuals or in personal care.
  • Crisis response training and CPR; ability to communicate with patients, families, peers, and staff.
  • Must be emotionally stable and resilient.
  • Adaptable, decisive, and forward-thinking.
  • Strong organizational and leadership abilities.
  • Ability to gain and maintain support and respect of coworkers.

Responsibilities

  • Provide physical, emotional, and cognitive patient care in a safe manner.
  • Liaise with hospital departments to ensure patient safety and quality care.
  • Training and crisis intervention implementation.
  • Perform environment and patient safety duties (room inspections, contraband checks).
  • Communicate abnormal vital signs and symptoms to staff.
  • Report emotional or cognitive observations to appropriate staff.
  • Incumbents may be asked to perform other related tasks.

Job description

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION The Psych Aide provides direct contact with each assigned patient to monitor responses to services & identify problem areasSUPERVISION Reports directly to Nurse Manager andor Charge Nurse

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  • Provides physical emotional &or cognitive patient care in an appropriate safe manner
  • Liaison with various departments of LCMH to patient safety and quality care based on patient needs
  • Diligent Training
  • Utilizes effective crisis intervention techniques
  • Demonstrates ability to conduct environment and patient safety duties ie room inspections patient search belonging searches monitor visitors for contraband
  • Communicates abnormal variances of physical data vital signs pain etc to appropriate staff
  • Emotional &or cognitive data tearful hallucinating etc to appropriate staff

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
  • High School DiplomaGED preferred
  • Sufficient experience in working with mentally ill persons addicted persons or in providing personal care services
  • Crisis Response Training CPRAbility to communicate with patient family peers and medical personnel
  • Requires emotional stability and resilience
  • Must be adaptable to change be decisive and demonstrate foresight
  • Exhibits organizational and leadership ability
  • Shows ability to gain & maintain support and respect of co workers
Physical DemandsWork Environment

Work requires a variety of physical activities including standing and walking for long periods of time bending stooping and lifting The work environment may be physically confining Visual acuity is required for a variety of specific activities Must have normal hearing or utilize adaptive hearing devices if duties require listening with a stethoscope to discern breath sounds heart sounds and bowel sounds Ability to do shift work as requiredReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions
