Job summary

Lake Charles Memorial Health System is seeking a Psych Aide to provide direct contact with patients, monitoring responses to services and identifying problem areas. The role reports to the Nurse Manager/Charge Nurse and collaborates with multiple departments to ensure safety and quality care.

Requirements include a High School Diploma or GED, experience with mentally ill or addicted individuals, Crisis Response Training, CPR, and strong communication skills.

Description Of Position

The Psych Aide provides direct contact with each assigned patient to monitor responses to services & identify problem areas.

SUPERVISION

Reports directly to Nurse Manager and/or Charge Nurse

Responsibilities And Duties

• Provides physical, emotional &/or cognitive patient care in an appropriate, safe manner.
• Liaison with various departments of LCMH to patient safety and quality care based on patient needs. - Diligent Training
• Utilizes effective crisis intervention techniques.
• Demonstrates ability to conduct environment and patient safety duties (i.e.- room inspections, patient search, belonging searches, monitor visitors for contraband).
• Communicates abnormal variances of physical data (vital signs, pain, etc.) to appropriate staff.
• Emotional &/or cognitive data (tearful, hallucinating, etc.) to appropriate staff.

Education And Work Experience

• High School Diploma/GED preferred
• Sufficient experience in working with mentally ill persons, addicted persons or in providing personal care services.

• Must be adaptable to change, be decisive, and demonstrate foresight.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

• Work requires a variety of physical activities including standing and walking for long periods of time, bending, stooping, and lifting.
• The work environment may be physically confining.
• Visual acuity is required for a variety of specific activities.
• Must have normal hearing or utilize adaptive hearing devices if duties require listening with a stethoscope to discern breath sounds, heart sounds, and bowel sounds.
• Ability to do shift work as required.
