Job summary

Lake Charles Memorial Health System is seeking a Psych Aide to provide direct contact with each assigned patient, monitoring responses to services and identifying problem areas. Reports to Nurse Manager and/or Charge Nurse.

Responsibilities include patient care, safety, and crisis intervention. The role requires the ability to communicate with patients, families, peers and medical staff, and to demonstrate emotional stability and resilience in a fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Crisis Response Training and CPR.
• Ability to communicate with patient, family, peers and medical personnel.
• Must be emotionally stable, adaptable to change and decisive.

SUPERVISION: Reports directly to Nurse Manager and/or Charge Nurse

Responsibilities And Duties

• Provides physical, emotional &/or cognitive patient care in an appropriate, safe manner.
• Liaison with various departments of LCMH to patient safety and quality care based on patient needs. - Diligent Training
• Utilizes effective crisis intervention techniques.
• Demonstrates ability to conduct environment and patient safety duties (i.e.- room inspections, patient search, belonging searches, monitor visitors for contraband).
• Communicates abnormal variances of physical data (vital signs, pain, etc.) to appropriate staff.
• Emotional &/or cognitive data (tearful, hallucinating, etc.) to appropriate staff.

Education And Work Experience

• High School Diploma/GED preferred
• Sufficient experience in working with mentally ill persons, addicted persons or in providing personal care services.
• Crisis Response Training, CPR.
• Ability to communicate with patient, family, peers and medical personnel.
• Requires emotional stability and resilience.
• Must be adaptable to change, be decisive, and demonstrate foresight.
• Exhibits organizational and leadership ability.
• Shows ability to gain & maintain support and respect of co-workers.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

• Work requires a variety of physical activities including standing and walking for long periods of time, bending, stooping, and lifting.
• The work environment may be physically confining.
• Visual acuity is required for a variety of specific activities.
• Must have normal hearing or utilize adaptive hearing devices if duties require listening with a stethoscope to discern breath sounds, heart sounds, and bowel sounds.
• Ability to do shift work as required.
