Job summary

JBS USA Perry facility is seeking a PSM Supervisor I to manage Process Safety Management and Risk Management Plan programs, focusing on ammonia refrigeration systems. Qualifications

• Experience: 3+ years in industrial maintenance, ammonia refrigeration, or process safety programs.

Location: Perry, IA – Sow Harvest & Sausage Processing Facility

Reports To: Maintenance Manager I

Position Summary

The PSM Supervisor I is responsible for managing and maintaining the Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Plan (RMP) programs at the Perry facility, ensuring compliance with OSHA 1910.119, EPA standards, and JBS corporate protocols. This role focuses primarily on the ammonia refrigeration system and other covered processes by administering safety programs, overseeing mechanical integrity compliance, and driving employee training and emergency preparedness to maintain a safe working environment.

Key Responsibilities

• PSM & RMP Compliance - Maintain and update all PSM/RMP program elements, including:
• Process Safety Information (PSI) , Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) , Mechanical Integrity (MI) program
• Management of Change (MOC) , Operating Procedures and training records
• Incident Investigation and Compliance Audits - Ensure all documentation is accurate, current, and easily accessible for audits and regulatory inspections.
• Audits & Inspections - Schedule and perform internal compliance audits for PSM and RMP elements.
• Assist external auditors and regulatory inspectors by providing required documentation and responding to inquiries. Take corrective action promptly following audits or inspections.
• Mechanical Integrity & Maintenance Coordination - Support mechanical integrity activities for ammonia refrigeration systems, valves, pressure vessels, and safety devices per IIAR guidelines.
• Work closely with maintenance and contractors to ensure equipment inspections and testing are scheduled and documented.
• Employee Training & Awareness - Develop, coordinate, and deliver PSM-related training for technicians, operators, and contractors. Ensure training for PSM-covered employees meets regulatory requirements, including refresher training. Maintain accurate training records for compliance purposes.
• Emergency Response & Preparedness - Maintain the Ammonia Emergency Action Plan and ensure alignment with OSHA process safety requirements. Participate in emergency drills, coordinate with local responders, and update response documentation as necessary.
• Continuous Improvement - Identify risks and recommend improvements to plant safety systems and PSM documentation. Review and approve MOC, PHAs, and operating procedures to prevent process safety incidents.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Education: Associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering , Safety, or related technical field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
• Experience: Minimum 3+ years of experience working in industrial maintenance, ammonia refrigeration, or process safety management programs.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA 1910.119 and EPA RMP regulations.
• Technical Knowledge & Skills: Familiarity with Ammonia refrigeration systems, IIAR standards, and P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with CMMS and digital compliance management tools preferred.
• Other Competencies: Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and documentation skills.
• Strong communication and training abilities to work cross-functionally.
• Ability to interpret technical data and regulatory language for practical application. . .

Physical Demands & Work Environment

• Frequent presence in the plant, including mechanical rooms and refrigeration areas (cold and wet environments).
• Ability to climb ladders, stand for long periods, and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
• Must wear PPE and comply with all plant safety and security standards.
