Job description

Responsibilities

Assessment – Assesses patients, clients and families and recognizes normal parameters, deviations and abnormalities in physical, emotional, developmental and behavioral status as it relates to cardio-pulmonary needs using a family-centered approach to care, plans and prioritizes care to meet patient, client and family needs, collects clinical data, utilizes decision trees and guidelines. Matches formal knowledge with clinical events to make appropriate decisions during sleep study testing.

Documentation – Demonstrates compliance with established practices in documentation. Documents routine observations, changes in procedure and significant events in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnography results. Provides thorough documentation during data collection based on direct observation of the patient through real-time comments and narrative notes. Follows procedures to establish and document baseline values (such as body position, oxyhemoglobin saturation, end tidal carbon dioxide values, respiratory and heart rates, etc.).

Clinical Judgment – Demonstrates competence in the implementation of the technical skills required for the care of the patients, clients and families according to CCHMC policies, procedures and standards. Demonstrates compliance with established practices in documentation of care; identifies goals and outcomes for health; directs interventions toward the attainment of goals and outcomes as it relates to cardio-pulmonary health; evaluates effectiveness of care; demonstrates critical thinking by making appropriate care decisions and relating that information to the healthcare team; implements the standards of patient care and access; facilitates patient and family learning by providing structured education based upon the Plan of Care and patient and family needs.

Systems Thinking – Is able to recognize systems and processes within the healthcare environment that affect the patient experience; anticipates needs of patients and families as they move through the healthcare system; utilizes untapped and alternative resources as necessary; sustains a comprehensive understanding of regulatory requirements and accreditation standards; enthusiastically supports leadership in efforts to meet and sustain regulatory compliance efforts of the department and hospital; monitors and complies with safety and departmental policies and procedures; ensures all individual certifications and Safety College requirements are fulfilled in a timely basis; is mindful of CCHMC processes and compliance with CMS standards and assertively communicates safety and compliance concerns to leadership team members; effectively coordinates delivery of respiratory care while in the role of Lead; serves as a point of contact for the ongoing monitoring of workload, workflow and appropriate respiratory care staffing levels.

Plan of Care – Demonstrates competence in the implementation of the technical skills required for the care of the patients, clients and families according to CCHMC policies, procedures and standards; identifies goals and outcomes for health; directs interventions toward the attainment of goals and outcomes; evaluates effectiveness of care; demonstrates critical thinking by making appropriate care decisions and relating that information to the healthcare team; implements the standards of patient care and access; demonstrates compliance with established practices in documentation of care. To function as a professional sleep/respiratory therapist and apply theoretical knowledge to the care of infant, child, adolescent and adult patients and clients; to demonstrate competence in Sleep/Respiratory Care skills, problem solving, critical thinking and priority setting; to recognize the need for professional growth and to take appropriate steps toward meeting educational needs.
