Job summary

CO00 Children's Hospital Medical Center is seeking a part-time Respiratory Therapist for the Burnet Campus. This role involves assessing patients using a family-centered approach and planning care based on clinical data during sleep studies. Candidates should have an Associate's degree related to the field and a Registered Respiratory Therapy license.

In addition to patient care and documentation, the therapist will monitor safety practices and establish Plans of Care aimed at improving cardio-pulmonary health.

Job description

Job Responsibilities

• Assesses patients, clients and families using a family‑centered approach to care and recognizes normal parameters, deviations, and abnormalities in physical, emotional, developmental, and behavioral status as it relates to cardio‑pulmonary needs.
• Plans and prioritizes care to meet patient, client, and family needs; collects clinical data, utilizes decision trees and guidelines, and matches formal knowledge with clinical events to make appropriate decisions during sleep study testing.
• Demonstrates compliance with established practices in documentation: documents routine observations, changes in procedure and significant events to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnography results; provides thorough documentation during data collection based on direct observation of the patient through real‑time comments and narrative notes; follows procedures to establish and document baseline values such as body position, oxyhemoglobin saturation, end tidal carbon dioxide values, respiratory and heart rates, etc.
• Utilizes clinical judgment to implement required technical skills according to CCHMC policies, identifies goals and outcomes, directs interventions, evaluates effectiveness, and demonstrates critical thinking by making appropriate care decisions and relating information to the healthcare team.
• Supports systems thinking by recognizing processes within the healthcare environment that affect the patient experience, anticipates needs, utilizes untapped resources, and maintains understanding of regulatory requirements and accreditation standards.
• Monitors safety and departmental policies; ensures all certifications and Safety College requirements are fulfilled; communicates safety and compliance concerns; coordinates delivery of respiratory care and acts as point of contact for workload monitoring, workflow, and staffing levels.
• Establishes and implements the Plan of Care: identifies goals and outcomes, directs interventions toward cardio‑pulmonary health, evaluates effectiveness, and demonstrates compliance with documentation practices.
• Functions as a professional sleep/respiratory therapist applying theoretical knowledge to the care of infant, child, adolescent, and adult patients; demonstrates competence in sleep/respiratory care skills, problem solving, critical thinking, and priority setting; recognizes need for professional growth.

Work Information

Primary Location: Burnet Campus. Schedule: Part‑time, Night shift (United States of America). Employee Status: Regular FTE 0.6. Weekly Hours: 24. Expected Starting Pay Range: $31.50–$37.64 (annualized pay may vary based on FTE status).
