Job summary

University of Utah is seeking a Nurse Practitioner for the Shoulder Division to provide primary care within Orthopaedic Surgery. You will work in a clinic or hospital unit, with responsibilities spanning diagnosis, treatment planning, and patient counseling, in collaboration with physicians.

The role requires Utah NP licensure, Master’s degree in Nursing or equivalent, and national certification. Credentialing and privileging follow UHPPM 1-56 as part of hire; campus-based, full-time schedule.

  • Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess health care needs.
  • Performs selected invasive procedures within scope of competence.
  • Initiates and/or recommends medical drug therapies per approved protocols.
  • Maintains complete and accurate medical records and documentation.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities.
  • Counsels patients and families about health and illness.
  • Evaluates and re-evaluates care in emergency situations.

PS Nurse Practitioner (Shoulder Division)

This position provides primary care and treatment to a group ofpatients in a clinic or hospital unit with Orthopaedic SurgeryShoulder Division. This position may be required to access andadminister medications within their scope of practice and accordingto State Law.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Assesses the physical condition of a group of patients byperforming physical examinations and obtaining medicalhistories.
  • Formulates the medical plan and prognosis based on patient'scondition.
  • Consults with physician(s) regarding patient health care plans andtreatment.
  • Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify andassess the patient's clinical problems and health care needs.
  • Performs selected invasive procedures for therapeutic and/ordiagnostic reasons within scope of validated competence.
  • Initiates and/or recommends medical drug therapies or other formsof related therapeutic treatment and procedures in accordance withapproved protocols/policy.
  • Complies with medical records policies regarding the complete andaccurate documentation of patient care. Initiates and maintainsrequired records and legal documents.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities.
  • Counsels patients, families and significant others about health andillness, and promotes health maintenance.
  • Evaluates, plans, implements, and re-evaluates the care ofindividuals requiring emergency measures.

Minimum Qualifications

Required

  • Licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State ofUtah.

Preferred

  • Certification in ACLS/BLS/NRP/ATLS may be required by yourdepartment or by privileging criteria.
  • Utah State prescriptive privileges.
  • Licensure is obtained by completing a Master's degree in Nursing orequivalency (the only equivalency to the Master's degree is currentlicensure as a Nurse Practitioner) and a National Certificationwhich requires the successful completion of a nationally accreditedexamination.
  • UHPPM 1-56 requires that newly hired non-physician providers applyfor credentialing and privileging at the time of hire.
