Job description

Roamers Therapy is a private practice in Chicago, which was built on our understanding of how hard it can be to find a modern & down-to-earth therapist.

We provide individual, couples, child, adolescent, and family therapy services and work particularly well with individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, and interpersonal stressors. We take a trauma-informed, evidence-based, LGBTQIA affirming, and culturally sensitive approach to therapy to help our clients achieve mental well-being.

We provide a thoughtfully structured work environment for our clinical team members with minimal administrative overhead.

We strive to meet our clients' needs and preferences to our best ability as a trauma-informed practice, so all new provisionally licensed clinicians will be expected to have in-person availability at all workdays to provide both in-person and telehealth options to our clients. We also see telehealth as an invaluable option to serve our clients who prefer attending their sessions virtually for any reason (e.g., distance, preference, schedule), so our physical offices are designed and decorated for conducting both in-person and telehealth sessions comfortably.

We have been enjoying a strong connection with our clients and we attribute our success to our client-first approach with a strong focus on quality of care, reliability, dependability, and ethics.

Job summary

Provisionally licensed clinicians at Roamers Therapy provide evidence-based individual, couples, child, adolescent, and family therapy services to clients in our outpatient practice offices located in the South Loop and Lakeview neighborhoods. They treat a range of presenting problems such as anxiety, depression, LGBTQIA+ issues, life transitions, relationship issues, race and ethnicity issues, self-esteem and trauma, while keeping each client’s unique identity and desired goals at the front and the center. We also expect clinicians to submit their progress notes within the same calendar day, attend at least one-hour-per-week individual supervision, contribute to our psychoeducational outreach efforts, pursue professional development, and be an active participant in our team meetings.

Key recurring tasks of this position include:

1. Conducting full length (53-60 min) psychotherapy sessions with clients on a weekly basis

  • Providing evidence based psychotherapy treatment using a range of modalities such as the Psychodynamic method, CBT, DBT, and Gottman method.
  • If clinically necessary, referring clients to appropriate level of care (e.g., psychological evaluation, medication, intensive outpatient program)
  • If clinically necessary, intervening when a crisis presents itself and taking appropriate actions to ensure safety of client(s)
  • Engaging in psychoeducation during sessions as needed to help clients better understand the mental health landscape
  • Upholding and modeling strong boundaries
  • Upholding and modeling reliability, dependability, and punctuality
  • Prioritizing client care and well being above all else
  • Preparing strong progress notes and posting them within the same day

2. Attending one hour weekly supervision with a fully licensed clinician

3. Occasionally conducting 15-minute phone consultations with prospective clients (compensated work)

Additional tasks that may be required by your supervisor or completed voluntarily by you include:

  • Contributing to our psycho educational outlets with your articles
  • Engaging in ongoing professional development by completing trainings
