Job summary

Autocar, LLC seeks a Driver Technician to maintain and operate prototype and test vehicles, driving on closed courses and public roads. You will support engineering, testing, and assembly activities while ensuring safety and compliance with DOT regulations.

The role requires CDL credentials (Class A preferred) with DOT medical card, 1–2 years of related experience, and knowledge of fabrication, welding, and heavy trucks. Occasional travel and on-site work at our Birmingham facility are expected.

Qualifications

  • CDL licenses (Class A preferred; Class B acceptable) and DOT medical card.
  • 1–2 years related experience in heavy truck or manufacturing.
  • Fabrication, welding, and truck build/process experience desirable.
  • Ability to read blueprints/schematics preferred.
  • Pass DOT background and motor vehicle records screenings.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritize, implement and maintain safety practices and safe driving methods.
  • Execute detailed inspections on vehicles.
  • Support engineering, prototype and testing with check lists and test routes.
  • Drive Autocar vehicles on closed courses and public roads.
  • Ensure vehicles are safe, maintained and fueled for next driver.
  • Comply with DOT rules and regulations.
  • Assemble prototype, engineering, validation, and special build vehicles; install and validate parts & components.
  • Maintain a safe working environment with housekeeping practices.
  • Periodic travel with overnight stays may be required.
  • Support test and evaluation activities.
