Job summary

Stanley Black & Decker, Inc. is seeking a Prototype Technician Apprentice to join our on-site team in Valley City, Ohio. You’ll assist engineers in developing new and existing outdoor power equipment, using mills, lathes, welding, and sheet metal fabrication to prototype parts.

You’ll learn CNC, sheet metal fabrication, and prototype assembly while reading blueprints and working with a collaborative team. This role emphasizes hands-on learning and growth in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Familiar with basic shop equipment (mills, lathes, welding) and eager to develop skills.
  • Willing to learn CNC, sheet metal fabrication, and prototype assembly.
  • Able to read blueprints or diagrams.
  • Clear communication and teamwork.
  • Comfort with computers and basic software (Office).
  • Attention to detail and pride in quality work.
  • Positive attitude and openness to coaching.
  • Able to stand for extended periods in a shop environment.
  • Vocational coursework or hands-on experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Prototype Technicians in prototype development of new and existing outdoor power equipment.
  • Utilize standard machine shop equipment, welding, and sheet metal fabrication equipment to prototype parts.
  • Operate mills, CNC controls, lathes, and metal equipment for engineering groups with prototype design projects.
  • Fabricate sheet metal parts using press brakes to form laser cut blanks.
  • Think creatively to enhance quality improvements, cost reductions, and manufacturing ideas.
  • Use computers and specialized programs for completing projects.
  • Read blueprints and create prototype parts utilizing the correct materials and tools.

The Job

As a Prototype Technician Apprentice, you’ll be part of our Prototype Manufacturing team working as an on-site employee at our Valley City, Ohio facility. You’ll get to: Assist Prototype Technicians in the prototype development of new and existing outdoor power equipment. Utilize standard machine shop equipment, welding, and sheet metal fabrication equipment to prototype parts.   • Holds a High School Diploma or equivalent (required); any vocational coursework or hands‑on experience is a plus.
  • Able to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks in a shop environment.
