Job summary

Stanley Black & Decker, Inc. in Shelbyville, KY, is seeking a Group Lead for the 3rd shift (11:00pm-7:30am). You’ll lead a manufacturing team on-site and ensure safety, quality, and productivity targets are met.

You’ll implement 5S, train staff, manage onboarding, and coordinate with quality to reduce scrap. The role requires strong leadership, good communication, and occasional weekend work to support customer needs.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent accepted.
  • Able to use/learn Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Able to use/learn SAP or similar software.

Responsibilities

  • Practice and enforce all safety procedures, PPE use, and safe equipment operation; promote a culture of safety and report accidents and hazards.
  • Provide effective leadership and guidance to the team within assigned areas; address people-related matters professionally.
  • Facilitate onboarding and training for new and temporary staff.
  • Lead 5S champion; implement, support, and audit the 5S program.
  • Ensure work instructions are followed; inspections, setup, and first piece process are compliant; monitor scrap.
  • Maximize machine utilization and minimize downtime by reporting issues promptly.
  • Collaborate with quality to report concerns and manage scrap disposition.
  • Adhere to standard work instructions throughout the shift.
  • Lead daily huddles and meetings; promote team alignment.
  • Support daily/weekly production schedule; adjust staffing and OT as needed.

The Job:

As a Group Lead, you’ll be part of our Shelbyville Manufacturing team working as an on-site employee.


You’ll get to:



  • Practice and enforce all safety procedures, use of PPE and safe equipment operation, help to create a culture that minimizes safety hazards, train team members to report all accidents, near misses, and potential hazards. Accountable for housekeeping and 5S implementation in assigned area.

  • Provide effective leadership and guidance to the team within assigned functional areas, addressing people-related matters with professionalism and integrity.

  • Facilitate onboarding and training programs for new employees, including both full-time and temporary staff.

  • 5S champion. Accountable for the support, implementation, & auditing of the 5S program.

  • Ensure all work instructions are followed, inspections are completed, set-up and first piece process is followed. Audit process as needed to ensure compliance. Active member in monitoring and reducing process related scrap.

  • Maximize the machine utilization by attaining 90%+ of published target. Minimize downtime by immediately reporting machine breakdowns, material shortages, or quality concerns.

  • Work closely with the quality team by immediately reporting quality concerns to minimize scrap. Ensure all scrap is tagged for disposition and moved to organized in the proper locations at the end of every shift.

  • Ensure standard work instructions are adhered to throughout the shift.

  • Lean Manufacturing techniques implementation. 5S, Problem Solving, Visual Factory, Standard Work.

  • Lead and support daily huddle and tier meetings, ensuring their effectiveness and promoting team alignment.

  • Active member in executing the daily/weekly production schedule in the area ensuring efficiency and achievement of required quantities. Make changes as needed including but not limited to manning moves, OT, etc.

  • Ability to work outside normal working hours, including Saturday, as needed to support customer requirements.

  • Provide meaningful & timely feedback to Leadership. Support coaching and recognition for the team.

  • Other Duties – Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to be trained & operate a PIV (Powered Industrial Vehicle) preferred but not required.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Demonstrated leadership and problem-solving skills.

  • Good organizational and time management skills

  • Consistently demonstrates highest level of personal ethical conduct

  • Results driven with emphasis on keeping customer and business commitments
