Job summary

Danfoss Climate Solutions is seeking a Prototype Technician in Tallahassee, FL to turn engineering concepts into working prototypes for new product development and testing. You will build, test, and refine mechanical, electrical, and electromechanical assemblies, collaborating with engineers to improve performance and manufacturability.

The role requires at least 2 years in manufacturing or prototyping, strong mechanical skills, and the ability to read engineering docs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; technical training or an associate degree in mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, or related technology is a plus.
• At least 2 years of hands-on experience in manufacturing, prototyping, fabrication, maintenance, troubleshooting, or R&D support.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, blueprints, and CAD-generated documentation.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with experience using hand tools, power tools, precision measuring instruments, and test equipment.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and experience with maintenance management systems such as Maximo is beneficial.
• Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks including standing, walking, kneeling, and working with prototype assemblies and shop equipment.

Responsibilities

• Build, assemble, modify, and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and electromechanical prototypes that support new product development and R&D initiatives.
• Partner with engineers to identify issues, validate designs, and contribute practical recommendations that improve product performance and manufacturability.
• Perform functional testing using tools such as multimeters, gauges, calipers, micrometers, and other measurement equipment, documenting results and maintaining accurate records.
• Support the setup, operation, and teardown of prototype and compressor test systems, including instrumentation such as thermocouples, pressure transducers, and vibration sensors.
• Maintain prototype shop equipment, support compliance with ISO 9001 maintenance processes, and help ensure a safe, organized, and efficient workspace.

The Impact You'll Make

As a Prototype Technician, you’ll play a hands‑on role in turning engineering concepts into working products. Your work will directly support new product development, research and development, and product testing, helping teams bring innovative solutions from design to reality.

You’ll collaborate closely with engineers and designers to build, test, troubleshoot, and refine prototype systems and components. From mechanical assemblies to instrumentation and testing setups, your expertise will help improve product performance, reliability, and quality.
