Job summary

Randstad USA is seeking an experienced CNC Programmer for prototyping and short-run specialist work in Elgin, IL. The role involves writing CNC programs, setting up tools/fixtures, and operating machines for high-precision prototyping projects.

The candidate should have 5+ years of hands-on CNC machining experience, strong CAD/CAM skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines. Lean manufacturing knowledge is a plus.

Qualifications

• The Experience: Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience as a CNC Machinist with strong proficiency in CAD/CAM software.
• The Mindset: A strong work ethic, a self-motivated drive, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with multiple ongoing deadlines.
• The Skills: Mechanically inclined with strong mathematical skills, a sharp eye for detail, and excellent problem-solving abilities.
• Communication: strong oral and written communication skills—you know how to talk through a technical challenge with the team.
• Bonus Points: Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and practices is a huge plus.

Responsibilities

• Program, set up and operate CNC machines to perform precision machining operations for short run, prototyping projects.
• Set up tools and fixtures.
• Write CNC programs using G-code and Mastercam.
• Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications to determine machining operations.
• Select the appropriate tools, fixtures, and materials for each job.
• Custom fixtures may need to be designed & manufactured based on project needs.
• Monitor machine performance and make adjustments as necessary to ensure quality and efficiency.
• Inspect finished parts to ensure they meet specifications.
• Troubleshoot and resolve any programming or machining issues.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Ability to work on a team and work with welders.
• Other duties may be assigned.
• Working up to 4 hrs of overtime per week.
