Job description

CNC Programmer (Prototyping & Short-Run Specialist)

A plastic Manufacturer in Elgin, IL is searching for an experienced CNC Programmer. The CNC Programmer will be responsible for setting up, programming and operating CNC machines. We don’t just mass-produce repetitive parts. We tackle short-run, high-precision prototyping projects that require real skill, creativity, and a problem-solving mindset. If you love the challenge of taking a raw blueprint, designing custom fixtures, and watching a complex prototype come to life from scratch, this is your playground.

What You’ll Be Doing (The Mission)
  • Code from Scratch: Write master-level CNC programs using G-code and Mastercam.
  • Setup & Execute: Set up tools, fixtures, and operate CNC machines to perform precision milling, turning, and drilling.
  • Innovate the Process: Don't have the right fixture for a complex prototype? No problem—you’ll design and manufacture custom fixtures on the fly based on project needs.
  • Blueprint to Reality: Read and interpret complex engineering drawings, specifications, and weld symbols like a pro.
  • Quality Champion: Monitor machine performance, troubleshoot issues on the fly, and use precision hand measurement tools (height gauges, calipers) to inspect your own work.
  • Team Up: Collaborate closely with our welding team and other departments to ensure multi-step projects flow seamlessly.
Required
  • The Experience: Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience as a CNC Machinist with strong proficiency in CAD/CAM software.
  • The Mindset: A strong work ethic, a self-motivated drive, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with multiple ongoing deadlines.
  • The Skills: Mechanically inclined with strong mathematical skills, a sharp eye for detail, and excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • Communication: strong oral and written communication skills—you know how to talk through a technical challenge with the team.
  • Bonus Points: Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and practices is a huge plus.
