Job description

Overview

The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:

Coordinator will develop, execute and manage a comprehensive religious education program for the military members and their dependents of SJAFB, including coordination of all program planning, events, Bible studies, Vacation Bible School, holiday events, and annual budget. The role also involves directing full-spectrum religious education programs for all ages and serving as liaison between parish program leaders and the Wing Chaplain or designated chaplain.

Scope of Responsibilities
  1. Develop, execute, and manage a comprehensive religious education program for the military members and their dependents of SJAFB.
  2. Coordinate all program planning, events, Bible studies, VBS, holiday events, and annual budget.
  3. Direct full-spectrum religious education programs for all ages.
  4. Serve as liaison between parish program leaders and the Wing Chaplain or designated chaplain.
Education and Experience
  • Familiarity with general Protestant doctrine, teachings, rites, and worship styles.
  • Proficient in program management and Windows-based computer systems (Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, etc.).
  • Ability to solicit and work harmoniously with volunteer teachers and leaders.
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university is preferred; alternatively, a minimum of two years’ experience as a Religious Education Coordinator/Religious Activities Coordinator in a military chapel, or as a civilian director of religious education or parish programming. Equivalent work/education experience may be considered.
  • Completed Installation Records Check, FBI Fingerprint Check, and Tier 1 Child Care Coverage check (including State Crime History Report) as required by DoDI 1402.05. Failure to complete these checks shall result in contract termination.
Background Checks

Each individual working with children under the age of 18 must successfully complete the required background checks. Coordinator/subcoordinator failure to satisfactorily complete the criminal history background check will result in termination of the contract.

Specific Responsibilities
  1. Provide a comprehensive Protestant Religious Education program focused to meet the needs of the military servicemen and women stationed at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base and their dependents.
  2. Include one weekly Bible Study program with classes for adults and children (e.g., AWANA) lasting a minimum of 32 weekly sessions during the school year; one weekly Bible Study program providing at least two adult classes and age-grouped children’s classes for 50 weeks a year; and Children’s Church during worship services every Sunday of the year.
  3. Annually, include a Children’s Christmas program, Vacation Bible School, and Lenten studies.
  4. Serve as a resource and advisor for other Bible Studies associated with Women’s, Men’s, Youth, Children’s, and other studies.
  5. Complete annual privileged communication and other training given by the chapel staff.
  6. Actively participate in all Protestant planning meetings as required by the most senior Protestant chaplain.
  7. Accomplish all administrative work related to the religious education program, including initiating and maintaining records, program continuity files, personnel rosters, literature displays, and required Chaplain Corps statistical reports and documentation.
  8. Submit a weekly report to the designated chaplain containing attendance, program status, problems, and suggestions.
  9. Recruit, nurture, and train teachers and teacher assistants for the programs.
  10. Plan, organize, budget, and implement annual events such as Vacation Bible School, Children’s Christmas program, and other special religious education events.
  11. Prepare an annual religious education calendar and budget for submission by deadlines.
  12. Accomplish and monitor the annual curriculum materials ordered for Sunday School, Children’s Church, Awana, Vacation Bible School, and other Bible Studies.
  13. Maintain accurate registration and attendance records of all volunteers and students.
  14. Submit properly completed funds requests to procure all supplies and equipment required to support the program.
  15. Organize at least two volunteer training events each year: one in the fall and one in the spring.
  16. Work with the Contracting Officer Representative to resolve all job‑related issues and conflicts, and confirm prior approval of any subcontracted coordinators.
Workload and Compensation

This part‑time position is approximately 960 hours yearly. Compensation is based on budget and the successful candidate’s experience and qualifications.
