Job description

The successful candidate will be a 1099 contractor with Music Ministry International and will serve as a resource person, advisor, and coordinator of religious education for the Patrick Air Force Base Catholic community.

Catholic Religious Education (RE) Coordinator
Scope of Responsibilities

The Coordinator will administer the RE program, recruit, train, and mentor Christian educators, and plan and conduct an annual Vacation Bible School, among other duties.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
  • Possess knowledge of Catholic faith and doctrine, and a minimum of two years’ experience as an RE coordinator or teacher.
  • Have a minimum of two years’ experience working with worship, liturgies, and rites of the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Possess coordination skills to organize and communicate with chapel staff, contractors, and volunteers verbally and in writing.
  • Be adept in organizational and administrative skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Specific Responsibilities
  • Hold office hours at least 3 days per week (Mon‑Fri) for 4 hours per day and 3 hours on Sunday mornings.
  • Plan, organize, and supervise RE classes during September – May. Classes include:
    • Elementary (Pre‑K – 6): Sunday 10:15‑11:15; 26 per year.
    • Junior High (7 & 8): Sunday 10:15‑11:15; 26 per year.
    • RCIA: 1 hour per week; 20 per year.
  • Register and assign students, teachers, and assistants to classes, determining size and number at each age level.
  • Submit an annual assessment and critique of the RE program to the Catholic priest and provide a copy to chapel staff by 31 May.
  • Attend all Parish Advisory Council meetings and weekly Chapel Staff meetings.
  • Submit RE program updates, changes, and announcements to the Catholic Parish Coordinator at least one week before bulletin release.
  • Recruit volunteer teachers (catechists) and assistants, ensuring at least one catechist per class and one assistant per catechist, and maintain updated contact records.
  • Provide orientation for new catechists and assistants on RE policies and resources.
  • Schedule, plan, and conduct annual catechist and assistant training before Catechist Sunday in September; arrange a qualified trainer if needed.
  • Meet individually with each new and returning catechist within 60 days of the beginning of RE classes.
  • Plan events to honor and recognize all volunteers annually, funded using non‑appropriated funds.
  • In consultation with the Catholic priest and Parish Coordinator, develop and submit an annual RE program calendar of events for September – May.
  • Prepare the annual RE CTOF budget for submission to the Parish Coordinator by 31 May.
  • Coordinate Appropriated Fund requests for textbooks, supplies, and equipment with the Catholic priest or appointed representative by 31 May.
  • Submit Chapel Tithe and Offering Fund (CTOF) requests as required.
  • Maintain a stock of expendable supplies and procure supplies per annual budget.
  • Assess all texts to be used in the program prior to ordering for the next year, involving catechists and the Catholic priest.
  • Submit all necessary facility requests for chapel or other facilities.
  • Provide and monitor a sacramental program including First Reconciliation, First Eucharist, and Confirmation for second graders and beyond.
  • Arrange parent sessions for each sacramental program conducted by the contractor or a qualified volunteer leader.
  • Arrange rehearsals, workshops, and receptions in coordination with the chapel facilities manager for all sacramental celebrations.
  • Program any special events or liturgies requested by the catechists in conjunction with the Catholic priest.
