Job summary

The Mass Spectrometry Scientist is a full-time staff position housed within the Mass Spectrometry Core under the Office of the Vice President for Research at the University of Kentucky (UK).

Reporting to the Director of the Mass Spectrometry Core, this role provides scientific data analysis, interpretation, and technical support for the Core’s mass spectrometry services, with primary emphasis on proteomics and additional support for metabolomics, at UK.

Qualifications

• Experience with proteomics data-analysis platforms such as Proteome Discoverer, DIA-NN, MSFragger/FragPipe, Skyline, MaxQuant, or related software.
• Proficiency in R, Python, or similar tools for biological data analysis and visualization.
• Experience with targeted and untargeted quantitative mass spectrometry workflows.
• Experience with high-resolution Orbitrap instrumentation.
• Experience with metabolomics or lipidomics data analysis.
• Experience in a shared research core or service environment, including communicating results to investigators with varied levels of mass spectrometry expertise.

Responsibilities

• Process, analyze, visualize, and interpret proteomics and metabolomics datasets generated through the Core.
• Assist with troubleshooting analytical methods and contribute to lab-based sample preparation as needed.
• Evaluate emerging analytical approaches for mass spectrometry data interpretation.
• Collaborate with Core scientific staff to provide reliable, reproducible, high-quality results for UK investigators.
