Job summary

Integrated Resources, Inc (IRI) in Cambridge, MA, seeks a Senior Research Associate to advance drug discovery by delivering high-quality recombinant proteins for early discovery and clinical programs.

The role focuses on purification of cytosolic and non-antibody proteins, with minimal supervision, using AKTA and related purification methods. You will document results, troubleshoot experiments, and collaborate with cross-functional teams across the organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in biochemistry, chemistry, molecular & cellular biology or biophysics with 4 years of experience or MS with 2 years of experience.
• Strong experience using AKTA purification platform and current purification methods.
• Experience in protein refolding from inclusion bodies.
• Attention to detail, multitasking, and willingness to learn.
• Solid understanding of protein biochemistry and recombinant proteins.

Responsibilities

• Purifying high-quality recombinant cytosolic and non-antibody proteins and validating by QC tests (HPLC, mass spectrometry).
• Perform experiments using established protocols with independent judgement.
• Assist with troubleshooting and optimization of lab experiments.
• Maintain general laboratory operations and document results clearly.
• Communicate findings to project teams within Protein Purification group.

• As a Senior Research Associate you will contribute to drug discovery efforts for multiple therapeutic areas including neurology, immunology and neuromuscular.
• You will perform laboratory activities with minimal to no supervision and contribute to the delivery of high-quality recombinant proteins for early discovery research and clinical stage programs.
• This is an exciting opportunity to contribute your expertise to the Protein Sciences team.
• This is an individual-contributor role suited to a scientist with a foundation in protein biochemistry and hands‑on experience with protein purification.

You will contribute by:

• Purifying high quality recombinant cytosolic, Producted, and refold proteins from inclusion bodies and validating these proteins with quality control experiments such as HPLC and mass spectrometry.
• Execute experiments using established protocols and apply independent judgement to ongoing laboratory work.
• Support more complex experiments involving troubleshooting and optimisation.
• Assist with general laboratory maintenance and operations.
• Document experimental work and results according to established standards.
• Communicate results to project representatives and discuss findings within the Protein Purification group.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree major in (biochemistry, chemistry, molecular & cellular biology, or biophysics) + 4 years or MS + 2 years’ relevant experience (having industry experience is plus but not required)
• Strong experience using AKTA purification platform and current knowledge of purification methods and protocols.
• Experience in protein refolding from inclusion bodies.
• Strong attention to detail, ability to multitask, and enthusiasm for learning.
• Foundational understanding of protein biochemistry and knowledge of recombinant proteins and protein‑tagging strategies.
• Ability to follow detailed experimental protocols while exercising sound scientific judgement.
• Ability to troubleshoot and optimise laboratory experiments.
• Strong experimental documentation, reporting, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of upstream and downstream processes such as molecular biology, cell culture and protein expression, structural biology and biophysics, and/or assay development.
• Familiarity with drug discovery and how protein reagents fit into the process.
