Job summary

Eurofins US Network in West Point, PA seeks a protein expression and purification scientist to support small- and large-scale purification of recombinant proteins and nanoparticles, collaborating with protein characterization and other groups to enable early discovery. Responsibilities include buffer preparation, instrument maintenance, work-order tracking, column sanitization, and thorough record-keeping.

Qualifications

• Experience in FPLC purification up to 100 mg.
• Knowledge of affinity, ion-exchange, and size-exclusion techniques; protein characterization assays (Bradford, UV-Vis, SDS-PAGE, Western blot).
• Strong communication, independence, and collaboration; strict adherence to SOPs.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• US work authorization.

Job Description

The protein expression and purification team provides protein vaccine candidates and critical assay reagents to support target validation and identification during early discovery. The primary focus of this position will be supporting small-scale (30 mL culture) screening of protein antigens and large-scale (5 L culture) purification of recombinant proteins and nanoparticles.

Weekly tasks include:

• Preparation of buffers, maintenance of instruments, tracking of work orders, sanitization of chromatographic columns, detailed record-keeping, preparation of reports, and inventory maintenance.

• Hands-on support of the protein expression group is expected on occasion.

• The candidate will also collaborate with the protein characterization group, as well as other teams.

Qualifications

• BS with 3–5 years or more of post-graduate work experience, or MS with 1–2 years of graduate and post-graduate laboratory experience, in protein expression and purification of recombinant proteins.

• Demonstrated expertise in research-scale (up to 100 mg) affinity-based FPLC protein purification chromatography.

• Proven knowledge of the application of affinity, charge-based, and size-exclusion protein separation techniques.Proficiency in protein characterization techniques and protein-based assays such as Bradford protein quantitation, UV-Vis spectroscopy, SDS-PAGE, and Western blotting.A strong command of aseptic technique and sterile cell culture performed in a biosafety cabinet to maintain aseptic conditions is expected.The work requires effective communication skills, the ability to work independently, and the ability to collaborate with others. Meticulous attention to detail is required when following SOPs.

• A comprehensive understanding of Microsoft Office applications is a must.

• Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restrictions

Preferred Skills

• Knowledge of protein characterization by HPLC or UPLC. Proficiency in automated, tip-based chromatography systems and experience in recombinant protein expression.

• Experience with orthogonal protein characterization techniques (e.g., spectroscopy, MS).

• Proven track record in bacterial or mammalian cell culture, including cell passaging, cell counting, determination of cell density, and preparation of dilutions.
