Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 2 years of industrial coatings experience.
• Experience with spray equipment and surface prep methods.
• Ability to read technical specs, product data sheets, and SDS.
• Strong PPE and hazardous material safety understanding.
• Must lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
• Able to work in varied weather and industrial environments.
• Willingness to work in confined spaces and at heights.

Responsibilities

• Perform surface preparation including abrasive blasting, sanding, grinding, and cleaning of freight cars and tank cars.
• Apply coatings using brushes, rollers, spray systems, and other methods per specs.
• Measure coating thickness, adhesion, and cure with mil gauges and holiday detectors.
• Mix and prepare coatings per manufacturer data sheets.
• Inspect work for quality and regulatory compliance; document results.
• Identify coating defects and perform corrective actions.
• Safely handle, store, and dispose of coatings, solvents, and related materials.
• Maintain and clean coating, blasting, and spray equipment.
• Collaborate with welders and QA to support operations.
• Interpret SDS and coating specifications; apply safety documentation.
• Work in confined spaces and at heights with proper safety procedures.
• Complete work orders and inspection reports accurately and timely.
