Job summary

Viridan Group is seeking an experienced Protection & Control Engineer to support utility-scale solar, BESS, and PV projects. You will lead protection design, relay settings, and commissioning activities under the SVP of Engineering.

• Familiarity with North American utility interconnection requirements and standards.
• Strong communication, organization, and project management skills.

Join a growing clean energy company at the forefront of solar and energy storage development. We're seeking an experienced Protection & Control (P&C) Engineer to support utility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS), solar-plus-storage, and solar PV projects.

Reporting to the SVP of Engineering, you'll lead protection, SCADA, and commissioning engineering activities-from relay settings and design reviews to utility witness testing and project energization.

What You'll Do

• Lead P&C design, relay coordination, and engineering reviews for utility-scale solar, BESS, and medium- and high-voltage substations.
• Oversee SCADA, RTAC, RTU, EMS integration, communications architecture, and substation automation.
• Develop and review protection schemes, relay settings, schematics, commissioning procedures, and technical documentation.
• Lead commissioning activities, including relay testing, SCADA checkout, utility witness testing, grid synchronization, and energization.
• Troubleshoot protection, equipment, and communications issues and recommend corrective actions.
• Collaborate with EPCs, vendors, utilities, consultants, and internal teams to deliver projects successfully.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, preferably Electrical Engineering.
• 3-5 years of project or field engineering experience on renewable energy construction projects, with a focus on P&C design, implementation, and commissioning.
• Strong knowledge of protective relays, substation protection, SCADA systems, and utility-scale solar and battery storage facilities.
• Familiarity with utility interconnection requirements, commissioning procedures, and applicable North American standards.
• Strong communication, organization, and project management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with SEL protective relays, SEL RTAC platforms, and industrial networking equipment.
• Familiarity with Procore, Primavera P6, or similar construction management and scheduling tools.
