Job summary

Southern Company is seeking Protection & Control Field Services Engineer/Technician for the Rome/Canton area. The role focuses on field services for protection and control systems, with emphasis on safety, quality, and on‑time project execution. Candidates will work in the Northern Transmission Maintenance Centers and support switching procedures and outages.

Relocation and travel may be required. Responsibilities include commissioning, testing, maintenance, coordinating outages, and advancing

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering technology, or PE license, or related experience.
• Experience with P&C field services in power utilities is preferred.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and make decisions under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Commissioning, testing, maintaining, and troubleshooting protective relaying and controls.
• Complete substation routines and construction tasks without interruptions.
• Coordinate substation outages and commissioning with stakeholders.
• Develop safe work practices and conduct job briefings to mitigate risks.
• Share technical expertise in 3‑phase power, relaying, SCADA, and testing.
• Isolate hazards and restore service quickly during emergencies.
