Job summary

Georgia Power, a Southern Company subsidiary, is seeking a Protection & Control Field Services Engineer/Technician for the Metro East Transmission Maintenance Center. The role covers field services activities in the Northern Transmission Maintenance Area with safety and quality as priorities.

The position may require on-call rotation and travel to support outages and project work. Qualifications include a 4-year engineering degree or equivalent experience, P&C knowledge, and strong

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or BS in Engineering Technology, or PE license.
• 2-year technical degree in electrical maintenance or equivalent experience.
• P&C Field Services experience preferred.
• Electric power utility transmission construction, maintenance, or operations experience.
• Experience related to P&C Applications, Design, Construction, Major Electrical Equipment, Project Management, etc.
• Experience standing by to respond to abnormal conditions 24/7.

Responsibilities

• Commissioning, testing, maintaining, and troubleshooting protective relaying, controls, and communication equipment associated with substation and transmission power lines.
• Complete assigned tasks ensuring they are completed without service interruptions and manage clearances.
• Coordinating activities with multiple internal and external stakeholders.
• Serve as first responder to investigate power interruptions and equipment alarms.
• Develop and use safe and efficient work practices, conduct job briefings to identify risks.
• Isolate hazards and damaged equipment during emergencies to restore service.
