Job summary

Telex LLC is seeking a Protection & Control Technician II (Remote) to perform advanced testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of substation protection and control systems. The role emphasizes field experience, independent work, and testing complex logic and schemes.

Responsibilities include on-site testing, end-to-end relay validation using industry tools, and contributing to standard procedures. Travel is required; a valid driver’s license and strong communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years of field experience performing relay testing, calibration, and substation commissioning with limited supervision.
• Associates degree or higher in EPC/EE or equivalent field experience is preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills relevant to customer interaction.

Responsibilities

• Travel to customer sites to inspect, test, troubleshoot, and collect data on HV/MV systems.
• Perform functional testing of substation control circuits on relay panels and breakers with limited supervision.
• Conduct isolation, setpoint, and advanced logic testing across protective schemes.
• Execute end-to-end relay testing using Doble Protection Suite, RTS, or Test Universe.
• Support installation, commissioning, testing, and maintenance of relays and related equipment.
• Contribute to standard procedures for testing and maintenance of IEDs and communication systems.
• Prepare detailed customer reports with root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Represent the company professionally in customer and vendor interactions.

The Opportunity

We are seeking Protection & Control Technician II (Remote) to perform more advanced testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of substation protection and control systems. This role requires demonstrated field experience, the ability to work more independently, and the capability to support complex logic and scheme testing.

What You'll Do

• Travel to customer sites to inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start-up, and collect data on low, medium, and high‑voltage electrical systems.
• Perform functional testing of substation control circuits on relay panels, transformers, and circuit breaker controls with reduced supervision.
• Conduct isolation, setpoint testing, advanced logic testing, and scheme testing (reclosing, breaker failure, transfer schemes, etc.).
• Perform end‑to‑end relay testing using Doble Protection Suite, RTS, or Test Universe software to verify communication‑assisted protection schemes.
• Support installation, commissioning, testing, and maintenance of protective relays, relaying schemes, DFR equipment, SCADA systems, distribution automation systems, and associated communication equipment.
• Contribute to the development and refinement of standard commissioning, testing, and maintenance procedures for relays, DFRs, RTUs, IEDs, and communication systems.
• Prepare detailed customer reports describing problems found, root cause analysis, and corrective actions taken or recommended.
• Represent the company professionally during customer and vendor interactions.

Preferred Experience

• 2-5 years of field experience performing relay testing, calibration, and substation commissioning with limited supervision.
• Associate degree in EPC, EE degree, military power systems training, or equivalent field experience.
• Demonstrated experience performing relay testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning in substations.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
• Ability to distinguish color‑coded wires, fiber optics, and related materials.
• Ability to work safely and follow all electrical safety procedures.

Other Requirements

• Pass pre‑employment drug test and background check.
• Ability to crawl, climb, stand, and lift up to 75 lbs.
• Regular overnight travel required.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, overtime, weekends, holidays, and nights.
