Telex seeks a Protection and Control Technician I (Remote) to support field teams in inspecting, testing, commissioning, and maintaining substation protection and control systems. This entry-level role builds relay testing skills under close supervision and involves travel to customer sites.

You will assist with end-to-end relay testing, software-driven protection schemes, and installation of relays, DFRs, RTUs, and SCADA systems while upholding safety procedures and quality reporting.

Formación

• 1–2 years of field experience in relay testing and substation controls under direct supervision.
• Associate degree or equivalent in EPC, Electrical Power Tech, EE, or journeyman experience.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, plus MS Office proficiency.
• Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
• Ability to distinguish color-coded wires and related materials; follow safety procedures.

Responsabilidades

• Travel to customer sites to inspect, test, and data-collect on electrical systems.
• Assist with functional testing of substation control circuits and relays.
• Support testing of protection schemes and configuration of networked devices.
• Assist end-to-end relay testing using protection software to verify schemes.
• Help install, commission, test, and maintain protective relays and communication equipment.
• Contribute to development of standard commissioning and maintenance procedures.
• Prepare basic customer reports describing issues and actions taken.
• Maintain professional conduct with customers, vendors, and service providers.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Protection and Control Technician I (Remote) support field teams in the inspection, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of substation protection and control systems. This role is designed for early - career technicians who are building foundational relay testing and substation controls experience while working under close supervision.

What You'll Do

• Travel to customer sites to inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start-up, and collect data on low, medium, and high - voltage electrical systems.
• Assist project lead with functional testing of substation control circuits on relay panels, transformers, and circuit breaker controls.
• Support isolation, setpoint testing, logic testing, and basic scheme testing (reclosing, breaker failure, etc.).
• Assist with end - to - end relay testing using Doble Protection Suite, RTS, or Test Universe software to verify communication - assisted protection schemes.
• Assist in installation, commissioning, testing, and maintenance of protective relays, relaying schemes, DFR equipment, SCADA systems, distribution automation systems, and associated communication equipment.
• Assist in developing written standard commissioning, testing, and maintenance procedures for relays, DFRs, RTUs, IEDs, and communication systems.
• Generate basic customer reports describing issues found and corrective actions taken or proposed.
• Maintain a professional attitude when interacting with customers, vendors, and service providers.

Preferred Experience

• 1-2 years of field experience in basic relay testing, substation controls, and commissioning support under direct supervision.
• Associate degree in Electrical Power & Controls (EPC), Electrical Engineering Technology, EE degree, military power systems training (Prime Power, Electrical Power Production, Navy Seabees), or Journeyman Electrician experience.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
• Ability to distinguish color - coded wires, fiber optics, and related materials.
• Ability to work safely and follow all electrical safety procedures

• Pass pre - employment drug test and background check.
• Ability to crawl, climb, stand, and lift up to 75 lbs.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, overtime, weekends, holidays, and nights.
