Job description

About Our School

Pope Saint John Paul II Preparatory School is a Catholic, STEM-designated 6-12 institution committed to forming students through the integration of faith and reason. As an Apple School of Distinction, we believe, in the words of our patron saint, that "faith and reason are like two wings on which the human spirit rises to the contemplation of truth." Our educational model is built on four pillars reflecting Pope John Paul II's life as an athlete, artist, academic, and person of faith.

Like our patron saint, we are deeply rooted in our Catholic identity while embracing opportunities to collaborate with our Christian brothers and sisters in glorifying God through education.

Position Overview

We seek middle school educators across our departments—Fine Arts, Science, Mathematics, English, Social Studies, World Languages, Theology, and Fitness—who view teaching as a matter of the heart. Our teachers build authentic relationships through dialogue, reciprocal growth, and genuine engagement with each student. We see each young person as an eternal being with an immortal soul, a source of hope for the world who is destined for eternal joy. The ideal candidate will guide students to think like practitioners in their field—whether as artists, scientists, mathematicians, writers, historians, linguists, theologians, or athletes—while forming Christ in the lives of all involved in our community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Relational Teaching: Build authentic relationships with each student through dialogue and reciprocal engagement, recognizing that education is fundamentally about the heart
  • Disciplinary Thinking: Teach students to approach problems, questions, and texts the way professionals in your discipline do—developing the lens, language, and methods of your field
  • Christ-Centered Formation: Ground all instruction in Christ as the first teacher and model, weaving faith seamlessly throughout curriculum and classroom life
  • Collaborative Excellence: Engage in honest, charitable teamwork with colleagues across departments—offering creative ideas, providing constructive feedback with grace, and celebrating shared successes as gifts from God and the fruit of collective effort
  • Academic Rigor: Deliver engaging instruction that challenges students to move beyond memorization toward authentic understanding and application
  • Hopeful Vision: Approach each student with the conviction that they are created for greatness in this life and eternal joy in the next
  • Missional Commitment: Contribute generously to the life of the school community through liturgies, service, faculty development, and school traditions
Qualities We Value
  • Mission-Driven: Deep commitment to the school's Catholic mission with willingness to invest personally in its success and make sacrifices for the good of students and community
  • Relational Educator: Approaches teaching as a vocation of the heart, investing in genuine relationships with students built on dialogue and mutual growth
  • Christ-Centered: Embraces Christ as the foundation of all we do, modeling discipleship and helping to form Christ in students' lives
  • Honestly Collaborative: Thrives in teamwork, offers creative contributions, gives and receives charitable feedback, and celebrates success as the fruit of God's grace and collective effort
  • Eternally Hopeful: Sees each student as a source of hope for the world and an eternal being created for joy, approaching each child with this transformative vision
  • Ecumenical Spirit: Deeply rooted in Catholic faith while welcoming opportunities to collaborate with Christian brothers and sisters
  • Growth-Oriented: Embraces feedback, reflection, and continuous improvement with humility and enthusiasm
  • High Aspirations: Pursues lofty goals for students and self, driven by love of the mission rather than personal ambition
What We Offer
  • Mission-driven community united by shared values and vision
  • Opportunities for professional growth, collaboration, and spiritual formation
  • Culture of honest feedback, creative teamwork, and shared celebration
  • State-of-the-art technology and facilities
  • Competitive compensation package
  • A community that sees you as a vital partner in forming young lives for eternity
