The City of Winchester is seeking a qualified Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney to handle felony and misdemeanor prosecutions across multiple courts in Virginia. Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Investigates allegations.
  • Prepares motions and responses to motions in a timely manner.
  • Meets with victims and witnesses for case preparation.
  • Negotiates pleas.
  • Prosecutes complex trial cases in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, General District Court and Circuit Court.
  • Prepares briefs and arguments in response to defense petitions for appeal.
  • Advises magistrates on the law.
  • Assists police in investigations and advises on criminal procedures.
  • Acts as Special Prosecutor as directed.
  • Prepare for weekly trials.
  • Prosecute misdemeanors and felonies.
  • Provide periodic training to police and citizens.
  • Conduct legal research.
