Job summary

City of Winchester in Virginia seeks an experienced prosecutor to handle complex criminal matters across Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court, General District Court and Circuit Court.

The role requires a Juris Doctorate and Virginia Bar admission, a valid driver's license, and the ability to investigate allegations, prepare motions, meet with victims and witnesses, prosecute felonies and misdemeanors, and provide training to police as needed.

• Prepare for weekly trials.
• Prosecute misdemeanors.
• Prepare sentencing guidelines.
• Review Concealed weapon applications.
• Catalog "dead" arrest warrants and dispose thereof.
• Prosecute felonies in Circuit Court when directed to do so.
• Provide periodic training to police, citizens, etc.
• Conduct legal research.

Education and/or Experience:

Juris Doctorate is required.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Possession of a valid and appropriate driver's license. Member of the Virginia Bar, licensed to practice under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of the laws, ordinances and regulations. Some knowledge of the organization, function and methods of operation of the staff and operating departments. Ability to analyze a variety of complex legal problems, to make sound recommendations for their solutions and to prepare working procedures. Ability to express information effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other officials, employees and the public.
