The New York City Taxi & Limousine Commission (TLC) oversees a transportation ecosystem that moves nearly 1 million riders every single day, the equivalent of the entire Boston transit system. TLC regulates New York City's taxicab and for-hire vehicle industry, with approximately 180,000 licensed drivers, 1,000 businesses, and 115,000 vehicles, including the iconic yellow taxi.
The Prosecution Division investigates and prosecutes all summonses issued by TLC, which include administrative, field, and consumer-initiated complaints. The division handles a wide range of violations such as reckless driving, unlicensed operation, illegal street pickups, harassment, and leaving the scene of an accident. Prosecuting Attorneys represent TLC before the Hearings Division of the Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings, gaining hands‑on litigation experience across Consumer Intake, Settlements, Hearings, and Appeals.
New Hire Rate: $73,476
After two (2) years of city employment: $84,498

Incumbents must remain members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of this employment.
To be assigned to Assignment Level (AL) II, candidates must have one year of experience at Assignment Level I or two years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar in related areas of law. To be assigned to AL III, candidates must have two years of experience in Assignment Levels I and/or II or three years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar in related areas of law.
