Job summary

Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio, TX seeks an experienced propulsion engineer to design, analyze, assemble, integrate, and test liquid propulsion flight systems for diverse space missions.

You will work on multidisciplinary teams, perform simulations and test campaigns, prepare technical reports, proposals, and client deliverables, and contribute to cutting-edge propulsive technology under ITAR constraints.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • 5 years propulsion design, analysis, assembly and testing experience.
  • 5 years fluid and thermal system analyses using CFD/solver tools.
  • 2 years experimental propulsion testing experience.
  • U.S. person for ITAR work.
  • Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Design, analysis, assembly, integration, testing, and delivery of liquid propulsion flight systems.
  • Participate at all levels including proposal and execution of flight hardware systems.
  • Solve challenges on components and/or systems that span pressurant tanks, through pressurization systems, into the propellant tanks, down the feedlines, combustion, and finally out the engine nozzles.
  • Write technical reports, papers, proposals, and presentations to support client deliverables and business development.
  • Collaborate with experts in feedline, pogo instability, slosh dynamics and control, microgravity propellant management, thermal management, pressurization modeling, and combustion.
  • Learn new technical skills to complete project work.
