Job summary

KPIT Technologies Ltd. in Michigan seeks an experienced propulsion systems engineer to perform powertrain function analysis, requirement elicitation, and high-level functional decomposition using IBM DOORS.

Responsibilities include propulsion system operating modes identification, energy management requirements, and SFMEA for safety-critical functions. You will develop models in MATLAB and SysML/Rhapsody and contribute to agile project planning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Electronics Engineering or related engineering field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in conventional and hybrid powertrain development.
• Strong understanding of vehicle dynamics and system functioning.
• Knowledge of automotive electrical sensors and actuators.
• Experience with CAN/LIN/OBD and ISO26262.

Responsibilities

• Perform powertrain function analysis and function decomposition.
• Gather regulatory requirements, environmental and electrical parameters and corporate specs.
• Create propulsion system high-level functional requirements in IBM DOORS/DOORS Next Gen.
• Identify propulsion system operating modes and document in DNG.
• Develop energy conversion, storage and delivery requirements considering standards and OBD.
• Define propulsion system EOL service requirements (IO, Routine, DID).
• Conduct SFMEA for propulsion system functions and derive safety requirements.
• Participate in Agile methodology to plan deliverables and risks.
• Develop simulation/virtual models for propulsion features using MATLAB and SysML/Rhapsody.

Job description

• Performing powertrain function analysis and function decomposition


• Requirement elicitation activities to gather Regulatory requirements, environmental and electrical parameters & associated corporate specifications etc.


• Propulsion system high level functional requirement artifact creation in IBM DOORS/IBM DOORS Next Gen (DNG) including attribute classifications.


• Propulsion System Operating Modes Identification, Analysis and Documentation in DNG.


• Propulsion System energy conversion, storage and delivery understanding and requirement development considering standards and OBD compliance.


• Propulsion system EOL Service requirements (IO,Routine,DID) defines for propulsion components


• Powertrain Energy Management System analysis to for nominal, de-rated and non-functional performance.


• Perform System Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (SFMEA) for Propulsion system functions and identify the safety requirement


• Participate in Agile Methodology to plan RASI deliverable timing and identify potential risks.


• Develop simulation/virtual models for specific propulsion features/functions using MATLAB, SysML Rhapsody.

Requirements:

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Electronics Engineering other related Engineering degree.


• Minimum 5 years’ experience in conventional and hybrid powertrain development.


• Good understanding on overall vehicle dynamics and vehicle system functioning.


• Good understanding automotive electrical sensors and actuators.


• Good understanding of functions like gearbox management, energy management of high-voltage batteries, vehicle’s modes related to its performance, ECU power cycles and displaying powertrain-related information to the user on the HMI.


• Good understanding of Functional Safety.


• Expertise with automotive communication protocols such as CAN and LIN along with OBD standards.


• Experience in Function analysis and function decomposition.


• Expertise with Microsoft Office products Outlook, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint


• Proficient in requirement management tools such as IBM Rational DOORs, IBM DOORS Next Gen etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with Vector Tools for data collection.


• Vehicle Validation or Powertrain Calibration experience.


• Familiarity with Agile project management


• Experience with overall vehicle development cycle and Change management process.


• Good communication skills, able to lead meetings with cross functional team.
