Job summary

Shield AI is seeking a Propulsion Performance Engineer to own calibration and performance for reciprocating engines powering the V-BAT platform. You will lead test plans, ECU tuning, and performance analysis from bench to flight test, owning torque, power and fuel efficiency across the operating envelope.

You will work hands-on with engine hardware, injection systems, and test stands, driving data-driven improvements and calibration decisions with minimal oversight.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
• 5+ years in mechanical or aerospace engineering focusing on engine performance or calibration.
• Deep hands-on experience with reciprocating engines (piston).
• Experience with electronically controlled fuel injectors and fuel injection systems.
• Proven experience with ECU configuration and engine calibration.

Responsibilities

• Define test plans, calibration methodology, and acceptance criteria across dynamometer, bench, and flight test campaigns.
• Perform ECU configuration and tuning to optimize engine performance, fuel efficiency, and reliability.
• Analyze torque, power, and fuel consumption; identify calibration or hardware improvements.
• Lead troubleshooting and root-cause investigations for engine testing.
• Interpret test data to validate performance against requirements and close gaps with design intent.
• Represent engine calibration in design reviews and cross-functional discussions.
• Develop and maintain calibration documentation and performance reporting.
• Support refinement of propulsion models through test campaigns and data review.
