Job summary

General Motors is seeking a GPS ME Manufacturing Engineering Intern to join our propulsion systems team. You’ll work with world-class engineers to qualify equipment, optimize processes, and design factory layouts across high‑voltage electric motors, transmissions, batteries and drive units.

You will contribute to lean initiatives, document results, and present technical updates to leadership. Onsite in Warren, MI with May–June 2027 start dates; travel possible depending on assignment.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely related technical field.

Responsibilities

  • Support manufacturing process development by researching, testing, and optimizing assembly or fabrication processes for propulsion components in lab or plant environments.
  • Assist with equipment launch activities including installation, debugging, and qualification of manufacturing equipment and documenting results for program launch metrics.
  • Apply lean manufacturing principles to analyze throughput, identify waste, and develop standardized work documentation.
  • Use virtual engineering tools to draft 3D process layouts, simulation models, or CAD/CAM work instructions for manufacturing planning.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve manufacturing quality or scrap issues tied to process or design root causes.
  • Participate in structured problem-solving activities at manufacturing sites, identifying defect root causes and recommending corrective actions.
  • Develop and present engineering deliverables and project updates to engineering leads and stakeholders.
