Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and one year of experience in the property assessment field.
• Current CMA licensure required; must obtain CMA-IQ within two years and AMA within five years.
• Class D Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Appraises and determines appropriate property value and classification for all property types for real estate tax purposes, in assigned areas.
• Analyzes, verifies, and researches sales data; assists in mass appraisal using the CAMA system.
• Inspects properties to determine quality, measures, photographs, sketches, and describes structures; determines land acreage, depreciation and classifications.
• Establishes defendable market values and defends decisions at Board of Review and in tax court; responds to re-evaluation requests.
• Processes specialty tax program applications and communicates determinations to property owners; assists with splits and combinations for new values.
• Communicates courteously with the public to explain valuation processes and tax laws; handles inquiries and public meetings about tax law changes.
• Performs accurate calculations and tax estimates when requested.
• Researches valuation benchmarks for mass appraisal through study of construction, sales data, and neighborhood trends.
• Trains and assists Assessor Trainees as needed.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent; one year of experience in property assessment

Certified Minnesota Assessor (CMA) licensure

Certified Minnesota Assessor-Income Qualified (CMA-IQ) licensure

Accredited Minnesota Assessor (AMA) licensure

Class D Driver's License
