Job summary

Mass Audubon is seeking a dedicated Seasonal Property Steward at Felix Neck Wildlife Sanctuary in Edgartown, MA to maintain trails, buildings, and grounds and assist with animal care. The role involves working closely with the Property Manager and volunteers on practical, outdoor tasks.

Expect a 40-hour week, Sunday through Thursday, July through September, with housing options possible. Applicants must pass CORI/SORI checks and a driving-record review as part of the process.

Qualifications

  • Excellent reliability and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to perform physical work, sometimes outdoors under adverse conditions.
  • Ability to walk over rough terrain for extended periods of time and lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to effectively interact with others.
  • Competency with basic forms of technology including email, internet, and Microsoft Office Suite (Teams).
  • Valid driver’s license and completion of a driver record check.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the maintenance and repair of sanctuary trails, boardwalks, signage, picnic tables, and program spaces.
  • Perform daily general maintenance tasks including cleaning the nature center, and public restrooms; removing rubbish and recycling.
  • Assist with general landscaping including gardening, weed whacking, invasive species control, and mowing.
  • Work with the Property Manager to develop weekly work plans to be completed both independently and cooperatively.
  • Assist with maintenance of basic equipment such as hand tools and power tools.
  • Provide care for Sanctuary Animal Ambassadors including feeding and habitat cleaning and maintenance.

About This Position
Mass Audubon is looking for a dedicated seasonal Property Steward to work closely with the Property Manager at Felix Neck Wildlife Sanctuary in Edgartown, MA to help manage buildings, trails and grounds, assist with animal care, support staff and volunteers, and maintain clean facilities.

Compensation, Benefits and Perks
This position’s pay range is $19.00-$21.00 per hour; actual rate of pay will reflect level of experience and qualifications relative to position requirements. Shared dorm-style housing may be available. This is not a benefits eligible position.

Work Schedule
This position starts in July 2026 and ends in September 2026. Full time schedule of 40 hours per week, Sunday through Thursday, 8:00am-4:00pm.

Other Requirements
Employees must successfully complete a CORI and SORI Background Check and a Motor Vehicle Record (if applicable) is required.
