POSITION SUMMARY

The Property Assistant helps keep Camp Immokalee safe, functional, attractive, and cared for through hands-on groundskeeping, maintenance, repairs, cleanup, and property projects. Ground maintenance is a primary responsibility, including mowing, trimming, edging, clearing debris, and maintaining outdoor spaces throughout the property. The Property Assistant also supports trails, waterfront areas, the barn, minor facility repairs, storm cleanup, equipment operation, and larger property projects under the direction of the Property Manager. Success in this role means Camp Immokalee looks and feels cared for, with grass cut, trails and outdoor spaces clear, property needs addressed, and campers and guests arriving at a place that is ready for them.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Perform routine grounds maintenance throughout Camp Immokalee, including mowing, weed eating, edging, blowing, pruning, and removal of leaves, limbs, and other debris.
  • Maintain trails, roadsides, fields, waterfront areas, outdoor gathering spaces, and other grounds to support safe and enjoyable use by campers, guests, and staff.
  • Operate and maintain grounds and property equipment as assigned, which may include mowers, tractors, utility vehicles, chainsaws, pressure washers, trimmers, blowers, and other hand and power tools. Perform routine cleaning, fueling, inspection, and basic care of assigned tools and equipment, and promptly report repair or replacement needs to the Property Manager.
  • Complete minor maintenance and repair work as assigned, including basic carpentry, painting, fencing, hardware replacement, and other general property repairs within the employee’s training and demonstrated competency.
  • Assist the Property Manager with larger maintenance, grounds, repair, improvement, and property projects.
  • Support routine upkeep and cleaning of the Camp Immokalee barn and surrounding equestrian areas as assigned.
  • Maintain waterfront and lakefront grounds, paths, shore areas, docks, and surrounding outdoor spaces as assigned.
  • Collect and transport trash and debris throughout the property and help maintain outdoor waste areas in a clean and orderly condition. Support storm preparation and cleanup, including removal of limbs, vegetation, and debris, within the employee’s training and demonstrated competency.
  • Apply fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, and other ground-care products when appropriately trained, authorized, and permitted to do so, following product labels, YMCA procedures, and applicable safety requirements.
  • Identify and promptly communicate facility, grounds, equipment, vehicle, safety, or maintenance concerns to the Property Manager. Safely operate YMCA vehicles and utility vehicles as assigned to complete grounds, maintenance, and property responsibilities.
  • Maintain tools, workspaces, storage areas, and property supplies in a clean and organized condition.
  • Complete assigned work with attention to safety, quality, efficiency, and the overall appearance of Camp Immokalee.
  • Work collaboratively with the Property Manager and other camp staff and assist with property needs across Camp Immokalee as assigned.
  • Follow YMCA policies, Camp Immokalee procedures, youth protection requirements, equipment safety practices, and applicable workplace safety requirements.
  • Model the YMCA values caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in interactions with campers, guests, staff, and coworkers.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Previous groundskeeping, landscaping, maintenance, facilities, construction, agriculture, or related hands-on experience preferred. Experience safely operating outdoor power equipment, tools, or ground equipment preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to learn the safe operation of mowers, tractors, utility vehicles, chainsaws, trimmers, pressure washers, and other equipment required for assigned responsibilities.
  • Basic mechanical, repair, carpentry, painting, landscaping, or general maintenance skills preferred.
  • Ability to follow instructions, equipment operating procedures, product labels, and established safety practices.
  • Ability to work independently, manage assigned priorities, and complete work with limited day-to-day supervision.
  • Dependable and self-directed, with strong attention to safety, cleanliness, organization, and quality of work.
  • Ability to recognize work that exceeds the employee’s training, competency, or authorization and involve the Property Manager rather than attempting an unsafe or unauthorized repair.
  • Valid driver’s license and satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) required.
  • Must successfully complete required YMCA background screening, youth protection training, equipment-specific training, and other required safety training.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is a year-round, part-time position. Hours may vary based on seasonal property needs, summer camp operations, retreats, projects, weather, and other facility needs and may range from approximately 20 to 40 hours per week. No on-site housing is provided for this position.

This is a physically demanding outdoor position requiring extended periods of standing and walking; frequent bending, reaching, crouching, kneeling, climbing, pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying; repetitive use of hand and power tools; and operation of grounds and property equipment. Work occurs primarily outdoors and may include Florida heat, humidity, direct sun, rain, mud, dust, insects, vegetation, uneven terrain, noise, vibration, and other conditions associated with maintaining a large outdoor camp property.
