Transylvania County Tax Administration Department seeks a Business/Personal Property Appraiser II to join the team. The role performs complex technical appraisal duties for business personal property, motor vehicles, and other personal property for tax assessment purposes.

Tasks include audits, data analysis, and assisting with tax bill preparation. Knowledge of NC property tax laws, depreciation schedules, and customer service is essential; salary is county-competitive and full-time.

Qualifications

• Associate degree preferred; one year of related experience, but neither required.
• Experience as a Property/Appraiser or related tax role is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Appraise and assess business personal property, aircraft, motor vehicles, and other taxable personal property.
• Conduct annual business personal property audits to ensure compliance with NC property tax laws.
• Analyze financial and appraisal data to ensure accurate property valuation and tax billing.
• Assist in listing forms printing and annual abstract creation; process land transfers per deeds and certificates.
• Lead motor vehicle appraisal and situs processes; assist taxpayers with vehicle-related inquiries.
• Train new employees in motor vehicle appraisal and situses.
• Prepare and process aircraft, mobile home, boat listings; retrieve data from NC DMV and Wildlife Commission.
