Position Summary
This role involves exercising discretion in handling property claims within designated authority, servicing assigned territory, and potentially managing litigated claims.
- This is a remote, work-from-home position in Virginia.
- Ideal candidates reside in Fairfax County or nearby areas.
- The position level (e.g., Property Adjuster II) will depend on experience and qualifications.
- A company car and home office equipment will be provided.
- Strong time management and organization skills are preferred.
- Regular travel within the territory is required.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Contact policyholders, investigate claims, inspect damages, and evaluate coverage.
- Handle claims within authority, set reserves, review reports, and determine payments.
- Document files and submit reports for closure.
- Identify subrogation opportunities and initiate action.
- Manage claims to conclusion, interact with agents, and handle litigated claims as needed.
- Develop knowledge of estimating practices and participate in training.
- Attend industry training and participate in catastrophe response when required.

Qualifications
Minimum Educational and Experience Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED plus two years claims handling experience, or equivalent; or
- Completion of Erie-sponsored formal education; or
- Bachelor’s Degree.
Additional Experience
- Residency in the assigned territory unless approved otherwise.
- Willingness to serve on catastrophe duty, including travel on short notice.
Designations and Licenses
- Willingness to complete Technical Learning Center Training.
- Completion of AIC 33 and AIC 35 preferred.
- Willingness to obtain necessary licenses.
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record required.
Physical Requirements
- Use of PPE required.
- Ability to lift over 50 lbs with equipment.
- Climbing heights rarely needed.
- Frequent driving (50-80%).
- Frequent lifting/moving of 0-50 lbs.
- Manual data entry and computer use often.
