Job summary

FirstService Residential is seeking a Property Accountant in Chicago to prepare financial statement packages and reconciliations for condominium and homeowner associations. You will post journal entries, review GL accounts, and ensure accuracy across AR/AP, with close support for audits and annual budgets.

You’ll partner with community managers to explain statements, analyze variances, and deliver insightful financial reports, supporting clients with comprehensive packages and timely responses.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or higher in accounting or equivalent.
• Strong understanding of general ledger, balance sheets, income statements, chart of accounts and journal entries.
• Two to three years’ experience in property management, real estate, or residential management preferred.
• Superior oral and written communication skills.
• Growth mindset and ability to multi-task/prioritize projects.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, verify, and deliver Financial Statement packages for condominium/homeowner associations.
• Prepare Balance Sheet reconciliations and analyze accounts for accuracy.
• Post journal entries to the General Ledger and review reports for close accuracy.
• Review Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable transactions for proper coding and discrepancies.
• Analyze variances on Income Statement and changes on Balance Sheet.
• Prepare additional financial reports for client financial packages.
• Assist CPA firms in audits or reviews of associations.
• Analyze and post end-of-year audit adjusting entries.
• Prepare annual budget worksheets for clients.
• Assist Community Association Managers with monthly financial statements questions.
