Job summary

StevenDouglas is seeking a Property Accounting Manager to lead full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of commercial real estate assets. You will mentor staff, partner with property/asset managers, and guide monthly closes with strong GAAP and SOX controls.

You will manage cash, tax filings, audits, and due diligence on new acquisitions, while integrating properties into our reporting framework. The role requires hands-on expertise and independent, results-driven leadership.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience in real estate
• Strong GAAP and SOX knowledge
• Hands-on accrual and cash-based accounting, monthly close, journal entries, and reconciliations
• Advanced Excel/MS Office skills and clear communication

Responsibilities

• Lead the month-end close and prepare P&L and balance sheet for senior management
• Review rent rolls and AR; ensure ties to the general ledger
• Prepare tax filings and year-end audit schedules; assist with tax research
• Integrate acquired properties into accounting/reporting frameworks
• Oversee budgeting and forecasting with property/asset management teams
• Manage construction, capital projects, and major repairs accounting
• Supervise staff performance, timecards, PTO, and workload coverage
• Oversee cash management (deposits, wires, ACH, reconciliations)
• Support debt compliance reporting and loan draws

Property Accounting Manager

Responsible for full-cycle accounting and financial reporting for a portfolio of commercial and development real estate assets, plus management of staff and their work product. Partners directly with property/asset managers and lease administrators. Requires strong GAAP and SOX knowledge, and hands-on experience with accrual and cash-based accounting, monthly close, journal entries, and reconciliations.

Key Responsibilities

General Accounting & Reporting

• Lead and manage the month-end close process
• Prepare P&L, balance sheet, and monthly/annual financial statements for senior management
• Review rent rolls and AR reports; ensure ties to the general ledger
• Prepare sales/use tax filings and year-end audit schedules
• Integrate newly acquired properties into accounting/reporting frameworks

Budgeting & Special Accounting

• Prepare annual budgets/forecasts in collaboration with property & asset management teams
• Manage construction, capital projects, and major repairs accounting
• Prepare loan draws, monitor funding/disbursements, and support debt-compliance reporting
• Assist with tax return preparation and research technical accounting issues
• Set up new property records post-acquisition; prepare due diligence materials

Team Management

• Support the Controller in reviewing property accountants' work for accuracy and completeness
• Oversee cash management processes (deposits, wires, ACH, reconciliations)
• Manage staff performance, timecards, PTO, and workload coverage

Requirements

• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience within the real estate industry
• Proficiency with MRI and related platforms, preferably Yardi
• Advanced Excel/MS Office skills
• Strong communication, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities independently
