Job summary

Connect Search, LLC partners with a growing real estate investment and property management organization in Chicago to identify an experienced Property Accounting Manager.

You will oversee property-level accounting and financial reporting, lead a team, and partner with ownership and management to strengthen the accounting infrastructure across a growing portfolio.

The role reports to the Controller, drives GAAP-compliant reporting, and supports audits, budgeting, and onboarding of new properties.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience in real estate.
• Strong background in institutional real estate/property accounting.
• Yardi Voyager experience is required.
• Experience managing and developing accounting professionals.
• Solid GAAP knowledge and financial reporting experience.
• Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
• CPA or progress toward CPA preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead the accounting and financial reporting process for a portfolio of real estate assets.
• Review GL activity, journal entries, reconciliations, AR and disbursements.
• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and reporting packages.
• Oversee CAM reconciliations and ensure recoveries align with lease terms.
• Manage property-level cash activity, capital funding requests, distributions and reconciliations.
• Partner with Property Management on accounting matters and portfolio activity.
• Support annual budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis.
• Coordinate accounting support for audits and tax preparation.
• Assist with onboarding and integration of newly acquired properties.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls and reporting.

We’re partnering with a growing real estate investment and property management organization to identify an experienced Property Accounting Manager to join its Chicago team.

This is a great opportunity for someone with a strong foundation in institutional real estate accounting who is ready to take on broader ownership, lead a team, and help strengthen the accounting infrastructure supporting a growing portfolio.

Reporting to the Controller, this individual will oversee property-level accounting and financial reporting while serving as a key accounting partner to property management, ownership, and investment stakeholders. The role will also have the opportunity to help build and develop the property accounting team as the portfolio expands.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

• Lead the accounting and financial reporting process for a portfolio of real estate assets
• Review general ledger activity, journal entries, reconciliations, accounts receivable, and disbursements
• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reporting packages
• Oversee CAM reconciliations and ensure recoveries are consistent with lease terms
• Manage property-level cash activity, capital funding requests, distributions, and related reconciliations
• Partner with Property Management on accounting matters and portfolio activity
• Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
• Coordinate accounting support for audits and tax preparation
• Assist with the onboarding and integration of newly acquired properties
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and reporting
• Hire, develop, and provide day-to-day leadership to property accounting team members

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Strong background in institutional real estate/property accounting
• Yardi Voyager experience required
• Previous experience managing and developing accounting professionals
• Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting
• Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
• CPA or progress toward CPA is preferred
• Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
