Job Title: Property Accountant, Affordable Housing & Subsidies

Location: Quuens, NY (4 days in office, Fridays remote)

Work Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–5:00 PM

Overview:

A well-established and growing real estate firm is seeking an experienced Property Accountant to join its team supporting affordable housing and subsidy programs. This role offers a collaborative work environment, competitive benefits, and opportunities to make a meaningful impact on financial operations and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee billing and collections for affordable housing subsidies, ensuring accuracy across multiple funding sources
• Maintain full compliance with all regulatory guidelines and program requirements, including HAP, SCRIE/DRIE, and Section 8
• Reconcile subsidy payments and proactively resolve discrepancies with government agencies and funding partners
• Generate monthly financial reports and design analytics dashboards to track and analyze subsidy revenue performance
• Perform timely bank reconciliations and contribute to the monthly financial close process
• Review tenant income certifications to ensure accuracy and alignment with billing records
• Partner with property managers to provide guidance and support on subsidy documentation protocols
• Act as a financial resource for assigned properties, participating in budgeting and financial planning activities
• Take on additional responsibilities and special projects as directed by leadership

Qualifications:

• 4–12 years of accounting experience; property management or real estate industry preferred
• Affordable housing and subsidies experience is required
• Proficiency in Yardi is required
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• Strong understanding of accrual accounting
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management abilities
