Property Accountant

Hiring ASAP | Newly Created Role

Reports to: VP of Finance

About the Role

This is a newly created opportunity for a Property Accountant to join a growing real estate firm. The role offers hands-on financial statement preparation and will require experience with MRI or Yardi software. The ideal candidate will have 2-3 years of property accounting experience and be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly financial statements and perform variance analysis against budgets.
• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
• Generate monthly reports using data from legal, construction, and operations teams.

Property Accounting & Compliance

• Oversee tenant billing processes, including rent collection and dispute resolution.
• Work closely with legal teams to resolve billing inquiries.
• Perform bank reconciliations for operational, mortgage, and escrow accounts.
• Ensure compliance with debt agreements and lender requirements.

Budgeting & Audits

• Assist in the preparation of annual property budgets.
• Support external audits and tax filings.
• Address inquiries from internal stakeholders across multiple departments.

Special Projects

• Take on ad hoc projects as assigned by leadership.

Qualifications & Skills

Technical Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.
• 1-3 years of accounting experience (real estate experience is a must).
• Proficiency in Excel with strong analytical abilities.
• Experience with MRI or Yardi accounting systems is a plus.

Soft Skills:

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills—ability to work with multiple teams.
• Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment.
• Quick learner with a proactive approach to challenges.
