Property Accountant
Overview
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Property Accountant to oversee all aspects of accounting for a large commercial real estate portfolio. This role will collaborate closely with department leaders to strengthen the accounting function while delivering high-quality service to both internal teams and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Partner with Portfolio and Asset Managers to ensure profitability across assigned properties.
- Manage cash flow and funding requests for the portfolio.
- Support accounting integration for new property acquisitions.
- Perform bank reconciliations and prepare journal entries.
- Prepare, review, and distribute month-end financial reports, making adjustments as needed.
- Compile monthly financial packages including Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Budget Variance, and Executive Summary.
- Review and analyze AR/AP transactions for accuracy; identify and resolve discrepancies.
- Maintain balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules.
- Prepare and post accrual entries with proper documentation.
- Provide year-end support for audits and tax preparation.
- Communicate directly with property owners and clients regarding financial matters.
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of experience in commercial real estate property accounting.
- Strong knowledge of lease accounting under GAAP.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred; Associate’s degree with equivalent experience considered.
- Solid understanding of variance analysis and financial reporting.
- High attention to detail with excellent organizational skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and multitasking abilities.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines without sacrificing accuracy.
- Team-oriented mindset with strong ethical standards.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
