Job summary

Cherry Bekaert, in partnership with a well-established real estate firm, is seeking a Property Accountant to join its growing accounting team in Gaithersburg, MD.

The role focuses on full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of real estate assets, including retail and mixed-use properties. You will handle month-end close, financial reporting, and support operational decisions with strong GAAP controls.

Qualifications

• 2–10 years of accounting experience, preferably within commercial real estate or property management.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (or related field).
• CPA or CPA-track is a plus, not required.
• Experience with CAM, reconciliations, lease accounting, etc. preferred.
• Strong Excel skills and ERP/property management systems (e.g., Yardi, MRI).

Responsibilities

• Manage full-cycle accounting for assigned property portfolio
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
• Perform account reconciliations and variance analysis
• Maintain general ledger and ensure accuracy of financial records
• Support budgeting and forecasting processes
• Coordinate with property management teams on operating results, CAM reconciliations, and tenant activity
• Assist with audit requests and year-end close activities
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal controls
